2 lovely evening walks around Bembridge Lagoons, an RSPB nature reserve joined to Brading Marshes. The first day I discovered the area when exploring with my 2 year old, then I returned the next day.
A lovely calm morning at Bembridge Harbour, just add 2 swans a bit of mist and some golden sunlight.

After some winter refurbishments I was back at the Cabin in April to photograph the new Ocean Suite, a luxury double room with stunning views over Ventnor Bay. The morning started off nice, then the sea mist rolled in and it got cold… then it cleared up just long enough to get those sunny shots we needed.
I started making greeting cards over 10 years ago after taking a series of floral images and local landscapes. Some sold, some didn’t but I soon moved on to larger prints. I continued to work on a wide range of images covering iconic landmarks and the island’s seaside resorts, towns, villages, beaches and wildlife. After some successful years selling prints I decided to add greeting cards to my range of products.
With so many images to chose from, I made over a thousand different samples and this means while I get a bit confused, I also learn other peoples opinions and shops who stock my cards can choose their own unique range to suit their taste and location.
They are now proving very popular in newsagents, gift shops and galleries across the island.
I have made personalised ones for businesses such as hotels, pubs, holiday lets and tourist attractions.
The cards are instantly recognisable with their striking square format, photographic image and high quality handmade look and feel. The brown (or sometimes white) card and envelope is 100% recycled and the clear sleeve is made from corn starch and is 100% biodegradable and compostable. I also do a Christmas range with recycled red/green card and festive/winter scenes.
They are often bought and framed or given as gifts.
Some of the stockists on the island are:
The Beach Shack, Steephill Cove
Ventnor Post Office, High Street
Ventnor Beach Shop, Esplandade
Shanklin Wight Light, The Mews
Shanklin Rock Shop, Old Village
Glory Art Glass, Sandown
Bramble and Berry, Bembridge
The Dell Cafe, Puckpool
Card and Gift 66, Ryde
Cafe Isola, Newport
Quay Arts, Newport
Chessell Pottery, Brook
The Garlic Farm, Newchurch
It’s been a pleasure doing the photography for Rowena at the Cabin. A stunning wooden building on 4 levels overlooking Ventnor Bay, designed by her father and built by her husband. It is now complete and the business which was once just for massage and spa treatments now includes 3 luxury holiday lets.
Each image had its own challenge … angles, light, reflections… the usual.
Most shots were bracketed and stitched and a circular polarising filter helped cut the glare on both the glass and the water. This helped to capture the beautiful blue sea on a summers day.
The Crows Nest on the top level is exclusively for couples…
